Frequently Asked Questions

Leaving your recreational vehicle outside fully exposed to the elements can cause damage and lead to costly repairs. We say, “Better safe than sorry!”
There is nothing wrong with going on a winter camping trip in your RV, but some temperatures are just too cold. When the temperature outside starts to dip down into the teens or below zero, you should strongly consider putting your recreational vehicle in storage. Central Wyoming tends to have long and frigid winters so a good time to store your RV would be from the months of November through March.
Before putting your trailer or motorhome in storage, you should give it a deep clean and wax the exterior. This makes cleaning up after you take your camper out of storage a breeze. You should also leave your roof vents open (with screens) to allow good ventilation so your RV doesn't grow mold or gain a musty odor. Here at Sonny’s RV, we have an RV Service Department that has a full menu of preventative maintenance services for your camper.
No one likes opening the door to their camper to find unwelcome guests! It is vital to keep all external openings blocked off or screened so there are no access ways in. Some other tips include removing all food, sealing all access holes around hoses and tubes, and setting out moth balls to deter any rodents.
Water leaks in your RV slideouts can cause structural damage and also lead to damage of interior items and furnishings within the slide. To protect your camper and belongings from any moisture, it is recommended to store your recreational vehicle with the slides in.
When it comes to storing your recreational vehicle in storage, you really don’t need to have the stabilizer jacks down. Having the jacks down in storage does not make a difference from a mechanical or structural point of view.
Your RV battery will not stay charged at the same level as when you placed it into storage. If you are planning on not using your camper for an extended period of time, you should disconnect your battery. This helps keep your battery and full RV electrical system healthy.
The answer is yes! Although it is almost impossible to fully drain your recreational vehicle’s tank completely, a mostly drained tank will prevent the circumstance of it from freezing enough to burst.
